How to edit existing text in a PDF

Change content that is already in a PDF document — with no conversion to Word and without uploading the file to a server.

Open the PDF editor

For supported fragments, Local PDF Editor tries to modify the original PDF text object, preserving the font, size and position. The corrected text then looks like part of the document rather than a sticker on top.

Direct editing works for standalone, single-line fragments whose characters exist in the original font. Where it is not safe, the editor uses a clearly labelled visual replacement. The app has no OCR, so scans cannot be edited this way.

Step by step

  1. Load the PDF fileOpen the editor and choose the document you want to correct.
  2. Turn on text editingPick the edit-existing-text tool — editable fragments will be highlighted.
  3. Click and change the contentClick a highlighted fragment, type the new content and choose Apply. Style and position are preserved.
  4. Download the documentDownload the PDF with the changed text for 5 PLN including VAT, or use an access code.

When direct text editing works

The editor inspects a standalone, single-line text object and tries to save the change with its embedded font. A direct save is rejected if it could affect other page elements, invalidate a digital signature, or requires characters missing from the font.

Scans, complex fragments and visual replacement

A scan is an image, and outlined text is not a PDF text object, so an app without OCR cannot change it directly. Some complex fragments can use a clearly labelled cover and new text overlay instead; that operation does not remove the source data.

Frequently asked questions

Can the editor recognize text in a scanned PDF?

No. The app has no OCR. You can add your own text or annotations on top of a scan, but you cannot directly change characters contained in the image.

Does visual replacement remove the previous content?

No. It covers the content on the page, but the original data may remain searchable or recoverable. Do not use this function to redact sensitive information.
